The Bernstein Law Group recently held a workshop for Massachusetts accountants, financial advisors and life insurance professionals titled WHAT THE NEW TAX LAW MEANS TO YOUR CLIENTS. The workshop was held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Holiday Inn Boston Peabody in Peabody, MA. The presentation by nationally recognized attorney Paul Bernstein was designed to highlight the major provisions of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 and explore the planning changes we can expect as a result of the new act. The presentation covered:
- the individual and business income tax changes;
- the changes in planning that will occur due to the permanent $5.25 million federal exemption and portability;
- the questions raised by the income taxation of trusts and estates changes;
- the numerous generation-skipping tax provisions;
- what advisors should recommend with regard to planning under the new act, including investment issues, life insurance, A/B trusts and charitable transfers
